About Us

Matex International is a private consulting firm, registered under the Business Names Registration Act (Cap. 46.02) and recognized as environmental impact assessment professionals by Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA). The company is also registered with Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) and Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).

The firm has six full time consultants with relevant expertise in Environmental Management, Business Development, Social Development, Engineering, Energy and Water Resources Management. In addition, the firm has an extensive network with other consulting firms as well as individual consultants working in specialized fields to offer a wide range of services.

Main clients of Matex International include, among others, the Government of Malawi through various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, the World Bank, European Union, African Development Bank, Norfund and Private Sector.

Robert Matengula

Senior Consultant

Mr. Robert Matengula is a Senior Consultant with over 14 years experience working with Malawi Government, multilateral organisations, private companies and non-governmental organisations on environment, climate change and sustainable development management. Mr. Matengula has performed a number of environmental and social impact assessment consultancies in Malawi. His experience includes preparing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies for projects funded by Malawi Government and developing partners. He has also been engaged to train rural farmers located in flood prone areas in climate smart agriculture.

He has served as an environmental expert for several projects in Malawi and the SADC region, including service as independent environmental for Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa which comprises Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia. All work was performed to international and local standards.

Beracah Ntodwa

Economist

Beracah Ntodwa is an Economist with over 4 years experience of development work including socio-economic research, project implementation, data analysis and, monitoring & evaluation for Malawi Government, private companies and non-governmental organisations . Beracah’s expertise includes economic, social, research, impact assessments, project support, and data analysis. As a social development analyst for Matex Beracah’s areas of focus include developing and implementing collaborative approaches to engage stakeholders in impact assessment process and employing best methodologies and analytical skills for socio-economic impact assessments during the ESIA process. Beracah has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Applied Economics from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Edward Chilezi

Junior Consultant

Edward is a full-time Junior Consultant, environmental analyst for Matex International Ltd with de-risking expertise in environment projects and programs. He has experience in preparing and conducting Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), Environmental and Social Audits, and Occupational Health and Safety Management Plans. He has also experience in Disaster Risk Management, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programs and Project Management. He has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science.

Hastings Jolotie

Senior Consultant

Hastings Jolotie is an accomplished consultant in land acquisition, GIS, urban planning and architectural services. He has worked in climate change projects, humanitarian response and recovery, development and construction projects. Mr. Jolotie has worked in projects financed by the World Bank, the African Development Bank, European Investment Bank, UNDP, European Delegation, and many more.

He has worked on resettlement projects that include Dar Es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP), Shire Valley Transformation Project, Malawi- Mozambique Interconnection Project, Red Cross Flood Recovery Project, Nacala Corridor Railway Line project and Millennium Challenge Account power line project. Hastings has also worked on several projects with Matex International starting from 2014 to present

Mirriam Moyo Matengula

Social Development Analyst
Mirriam is a social consultant with specialization in stakeholder engagement, gender, human rights, transitional justice, conflict prevention, and public relations. She has a particular interest in conducting social risk assessments to inform the clients and local communities, as a way of avoid conflicts during project preparation and implementation. She has a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and Diploma in Public Relations.

Mwai Chingayele

Engineer

Mr. Mwai Changayele is an Engineer with expertise in the management, assessment and construction supervision of irrigation, water supply and drainage projects, and detailed systems design using AutoCAD and CROPWAT. As an Engineer at Matex, Mwai is responsible for the preparation of project proposals and contract management for the company, provide thorough analysis of designs, technologies, materials and activities for projects to ensure implementation is conducted in a sustainable manner to minimize adverse impacts to the environment. He has prepared ESIAs and Environmental Audits for various government and donor funded projects in different fields including irrigation, water supply, energy, processing among others. Mwai has a Bachelor’s Degree in Irrigation Engineering.
