SIMSO Oil Company Ltd. acquired a fuel storage facility from Caltex Oil Company in Makata industrial area in the city of Blantyre. The facility has three above-ground tanks for storing diesel and petrol. The total storage capacity is 5 million litres – with a 2 million-litre tank for diesel and two 1.5 million-litre tanks for petrol. Main aim of the facility is to temporarily store petroleum products (both petrol and diesel) and lubricants before distributing them to their fuel service stations. SIMSO acquired the facility to increase its fuel reserves for their customers in Blantyre and surrounding districts.
As a requirement by the Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), the client hired Matex International to conduct an Environmental Audit of the facility to ensure that operations of the facility are in compliance with applicable national regulations, legislation and environmental standards.
