The Government of Malawi is implementing the Shire Valley Transformation Programme (SVTP) being financed by the Government of Malawi, International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank, Global Environmental Facility, and African Development Bank (AfDB). The Government contracted Conduril Engenharia SA, as one of the Contractors to construct a water intake structure (weir) along the Shire River at Kapichira and a 6-kilometre-long canal. This necessitated Conduril to construct a campsite near the project area to support all their construction operations and activities. The campsite was subjected to an environmental compliance audit to ensure that the operations are in compliance with applicable national regulations, legislations and environmental standards. This made Conduril to hire the services of Matex International to conduct the Environmental Audit.
