MMC Limited recognized an opportunity in the emerging cannabis industry and intends to install and operate a cannabinoid extraction plant at Mbabzi Estates. The project will have a component to operate greenhouses and a laboratory where research and development of medicinal cannabis will be conducted. The overall goal of the project is to process and extract medicinal cannabis into Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) for the Global Pharmaceutical Industry whose targeted markets are across European countries with possible expansion into the USA and increase the generation of forex through exports. The total cost of the project is US$7 million and will have the capacity to process 48 tonnes of cannabis biomass annually. The client hired Matex International as a consultant to conduct an ESIA for the project.
