Thawale Mining Ltd partnered with Matex International Ltd in establishing quarry mine located in Salima District. The USD 1 Million project aimed at constructing and operating open pit mining to extract and process quarry aggregates in order to fulfil the need for quarry aggregates for construction activities in Lilongwe and Salima Districts. The role of Matex was to conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for the mine to ensure sound and sustainable project implementation and management by integrating the environmental considerations into the project cycle to minimize adverse impacts of the proposed mine on the biophysical and social environments.
